Information for Freshers students 2019-2020

Welcome to Selwyn, we can't wait to meet you all in October!

This is our JCR website, which has plenty of information about life at college from the student perspective. Have an explore of the website when you can. It is useful for you now, and when you come up and are living in the student community. It has links to many important university pages, gives an updated calendar to events at Selwyn, and posts the Hall menus so you know what food is on offer from day to day.

Take a look below for some key information to prep you for your arrival :)

Freshers booklet

This is the full version of the booklet (pretty pictures, maps, and all) which we have made to let you know what to expect once you join us at Selwyn! If you have any problems accessing this, there's a smaller PDF version on the official college website.

Email Mrg60 if you need a PDF emailed to you, or require a paper copy. Some hard copies will be available when you arrive as well, but we're tying to keep printing to a minimum to save paper waste!

College-provided information

This year, college has created a useful app with all the information you'll need for the coming weeks - the link is below!

Freshers' week

Your Freshers' week timetable is now live and available below! The red events are mandatory, so make sure you show up for those! All the other events are fun ways to meet your fellow students, and learn how life at Cambridge works. We have been asked to remind you that you must prioritise tutor, DoS and Chaplain meetings over any other events planned. We can't wait to meet you, and we hope you have an amazing freshers' week!!

Freshers' fairs during the week will take place on a college and uni-wide scale, to introduce you to all the clubs and societies Cambridge. It's up to you what you want to join, but it is great to find out what is on offer.

College Families

At Cambridge, it is tradition to have college parents when you join in first year!

College families have now been arranged, and your parents should be in contact shortly! Let us know if you haven't heard from them yet! The theme for this year's family bop is famous families, so get brainstorming some ideas!!

If you have any questions at all, and are not sure where to turn, drop [email protected] an email, or talk to anyone on the freshers committee! Feel free to contact any JCR members as well - each have different roles and the welfare officers can be particularly useful if you have any concerns.

There's a Selwyn freshers' Facebook group, with links to a group chat, can be accessed here

We're all here to make your transition into uni life as easy as possible, all of us have been through the process before and know it can be stressful! Please let us know if you are worried about anything - if nothing else we can point you in the right direction if you need help from university/college staff. There's no such thing as a silly question, if you're uncertain, just ask!!!
